In late summer of 2023, news broke that the US Government plans to invest over $50 billion into the flagging America semiconductor manufacturing industry. This legislation, called the “CHIPs act”, has been described as “the largest public investment in private industry in generations”, and it is quickly highlighting the need for trained talent. Unfortunately, the US is particularly challenged when it comes to hiring for these careers – this skillset is not commonly taught as a modern career path. When these jobs moved overseas, people here stopped training for them. Now we need to devise pathways to upskill as many as 300,000 new engineers by 2030 to meet this coming demand. This will require innovative workforce solutions that scale up recruiting volume and reduce time-to-hire, while guaranteeing a high degree of skill.
